Materials
All plastic sunglasses are made of polycarbonate. The greater part is recycled materials which gets new life in our sunglasses.
All metal sunglasses are being made of metal. Originally these are iron tubes which are being pressed and bended. To give the metal the shininess a special coating is being used. This way the usage of nickle is not needed and our sunglasses will pass any nickle test.
All the lenses are being made of polycarbonate. Sometimes you will find acrylic lenses in the market, but not in our collection. A property of acrylic lenses is that they burst easily. This is why the FDA (Food & Drugs Authority in the United States) does not allow acrylic lenses into their country. Our polycarbonate lenses have to pass a so-called 'drop-the-ball test' which shows the lenses are impact resistent.
Eco Collection
In 2022 our eco collection is introduced. These styles have recycled frames and/or recycled lenses. The material used for the frames is recycled polyester, known as rPCTG. It is 100% recycled from food containers, bottles & caps. The lenses are made from 100% recycled Poly Methyl Methacrylate, known as rPMMA-L. The source are display stands, optical waveguides and optical lenses.
Unfortunately not every frame shape, frame colour or lens colour can be made from recycled materials. There are technical limitations.
Packaging & Solo Solis Labeling
The sunglasses are individually packed in a biodegradable polybag. Attached to the sunglasses is a string with a Solo Solis booklet. This label contains our logo and information about how to use the product and UV protection. The booklet can easily be removed.
The outern parts of the temples are unprinted. In the inside of one temple there is printed CE UV400 CAT. X and our article number without NDL, for example 365.
The sunglasses will be packed together in white inner carton.
Accessories can be ordered seperately on the sunglasses accessories page.
UV Protection
All the sunglasses are 100% UV400 protected. This is being tested in China and in the Netherlands we sample test aswell. This means our sunglasses have the same UV protection as expensive sunglasses brands. Most of the sunglasses are category 3: this means the lenses can be used in situations with strong sunlight. In our collection there are also some sunglasses with category 2 lenses. These lenses are the light coloured ones (plain yellow, blue, green, pink etc) and also lenses with ocean effects. These lenses can't be produced in category 3, simply because they would be too dark. Category 2 means there is still protection in sunny conditions.
Production
All factories we work with are located in China and are BSCI approved. This means they apply to strong regulations regarding labour conditions including safety, working hours, child labour, salary etc. Recent years a lot has changed in China. The government demands stronger and stronger environmental requirements. Recently for example, metal suppliers of the factories had to close down for 1 month for government inspections to make sure these supplier are matching regulations.
Our factories own all quality documents to comply with CE (Europe) and FDA (United States).
